BEEN A WHILE /BLAME THE GREMLINS

Hello there been a while i know, but I've got a good excuse ,first i went on holiday for a week , and second when i came home which is 2 weeks ago now this heap of s87t that i;m typing on took the knock and we only got it back working yesterday .
So whats been happening ? well quite a lot but i am going to keep it brief for a change ,we had 2 debutantes box while i was away Dean Jones and James Morris ,Dean won so well done to him ,he boxed a kid from Speke who had already had 1 bout and gave him a boxing lesson . Next up Jay again boxing a kid from Skem who had 1 bout ,and was very unlucky to lose but he performed really well. Also on same bill was Spud Murphy who took contest at weeks notice and was beat on points .i think Mick will admit he was not fit enough but he still boxed very well.
Last week Alan Noon had his first bout and should have won but didn't so this is a bout we will have again as soon as .
And last but definitely not least Karl Tierney had his first senior contest ,and it was for England over in Dublin against an Irish select and alas im sorry to say he was stopped with a cut nose in the 4th round ,but he performed well and there was nothing in it up to that point and he will only get stronger from the experience as will all the lads so well done to you all keep up your hard work ,an lets go for it in the new year .

Rickis Bloody Nose

Sorry to say folks but our Ricki lost on Monday ,it was that nose of his that let him down again , in what was a good hard scrap .Ricki was behind after the first round and had some catching up to do ,which he did half way through the 2nd round he caught his opponent with a sweet left hook which stopped him in his tracks and resulted in the ref giving him a standing count , but at the same time Ricki's nose started to bleed and the doctor had to have a look, he let him carry on but warned us if if carried on bleeding he would have to stop it , and that is exactly what happened in the 3rd round .So the gloves have been hung up and he wont box now until he gets his nose sorted out which hopefully will not be to long to wait.

SENIOR NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS

This happy smiling chappy known locally as Ricki the Ripper is boxing in the quarter finals of the senior novice ABAs Tuesday 18th November in Nantwich .He is boxing a guy called Tony Dean from Darnell and Heywood ,he was due to box him 2 weeks ago but it never happened, so this is a contest both lads are looking forward to ,there are 11 bouts on the card so it should be a good nights boxing .

Well to all you doubters ,we did it , and i must cofess it is one of the hardest things that i have done for years .Steve who organised our little adventure was shocked himself at the severity of the walk which in reality was a fell race organised by the AAA who might i add are a gang of snotty ho ray Henrys ,and some of the most ignorant gang of b-------s that you wold which to meet.

Anyway it took us 3hrs 45 Min's to complete ,it was 11miles all round and 1500 ft at the and i have got some wonderful blisters for my efforts ,but it will be worth it if everybody who pledged a few quid pay up .

So get your wallets out folks and thanks to you all

Gone Mad

Yes Folks

I think have finally lost it ,some how or other i have been talked into doing some thing that i vowed i would never do again and that is run ,yes that horrible thing that i always try to make you all do, this weekend i am going to attempt to run walk climb or crawl 11 miles up some hill in Wales that i cant pronounce never mind spell ,but i will try it is some thing like Pememwaer ,it is 1,600 ft high and should be quite a challenge . My friend who has talked me into this Steven Wright has done this a few times ,so my goal is to finish ahead of him .

A Few people have sponsored me to do this so if i do finish it we should have a few more pennies towards our new second hand bus ,if you didn't know by the way we got our old one back that was stolen ,but it now runs like a bag of sh--- ,so if there is any one out there with a few bob who would like to sponsor me feel free to do so .

KARL RICKI

Friday 31st October ,we Traveled to Darnell Heyworth show in Rochdale ,it was a night we were all looking forward to ,having both our big boys boxing on the same show Ricki and Karl .

Both lads had trained hard for this show, Karl especially as he was boxing last seasons ABA champ in Danny Benson ,and Ricki boxing the home club favourite Anthony Dean ,but sorry to say Ricky's bout never came off because of A cock up over his medical card ,so to say we were gutted is an under statement .

Anyway Karl was his usual cool self leading up to fight ,kissing and cuddling his girl friend {honest ] i know weird or what ? ,but hey if it works it works we will have to see if he can take her with him on his internationals , the contest started at a terrific pace with Danny trying to impose himself from the middle with his long sharp jab which he did manage to do for half a round till Karl woke up and started to find his range with some lovely right crosses which sent Danny into reverse gear ,the first round was hard to split, .Coming out for the second Danny must have had orders to stay on his back foot and counter ,which he did with some effect as he landed some powerful straight jabs ,Karl hunted him down and was landing some terrific body shots which started to take there toll as young Benson looked like he was going to fold but the lad kept trying .

In the final round Karl went for broke ,again switching from head to body resulting in Danny having to take 3 standing counts ,by this time he just wanted a way out of the ring and i must say that it would have been merciful if the ref had stopped it but he did not and at the final bell Karl was awarded a unanimous well deserved verdict . But as he commented himself ,this was his first of the season and he must get fitter and faster as this was only a 3 rounder and the next fights could all be over 4 rounds , well done kid.

LOUPY ???

Mick Loup boxed Tuesday night in the senior novice ABAs ,against Chiltern Jenkins of Kirkby ,and got the shock of his life , Loupy's training has been erratic to say the least and it was touch and go if he would enter this contest { WHICH NOW I WISH I HAD NOT LET HIM ] .Any way he did and he payed the price for his lack of conditioning , when a minute into the 2nd round he was caught clean on the button and put on his arse for the first time in his short career .As Shea Neary said to him in the changing room after the contest , is that if you don't learn from this defeat you will never progress Mick, so no big deal you are only young with a lot of skill ,but ,and a big but , MICK sort your bloody head out

HECTIC WEEK

Its all happening this week here at NM ,we have 5 lads boxing so should be an interesting week .
Loopy Caino and Ricki weighed in comfortably for the senior novice ABA championships Loupy is in the under 20 contests 75kg class, Caino the 75kg under 10 contest and Ricki the bull is entered the under 20s 91 kg .
Loopy is boxing on the Dockers club Tuesday 28th Oct against Chiltern Jenkins of Kirkby ABC, Caino wont no who he is boxing till Friday and Ricki has a walkover to next round ,but is boxing in Heywood Friday along with Karl T and Mick Rigby ,Ricki is boxing Marcus Dean from Darnell and Heywood ABC ,Karl will be boxing Danny Benson of Thameside ABC and Mike will be up against Darren Cartmill from Barrow .

This happy smiling young man is Jay Siadankay,Jay has been coaching now for 8yrs ,after having a very successful boxing career as a junior . Like the majority of coaches in this game Jay holds down a full time job and gives up his time in the evenings to coach our budding stars .

Steven started coaching last year after having a great amateur boxing career wining many titles along the way ,both nationally and internationally .After a short but unbeaten pro career Tiger called it a day and between studying for his teaching degree ,he comes and trains our young athletes and has truly been an asset to our club.

JAY MORRIS the quiet man another newcomer to the clan Jay comes, trains, goes ,and we are lucky if we get 2 words out of him,but what a little athlete ,we hope to have him boxing with in a month and he is going to be one to watch for.

CHRIS CAIN, Chris only started boxing in May and has done well ,cant make his mind up at the moment whether he wants to box or play football ,but what ever he chooses he will do well ,because when he TURNS UP he gives his all .

The one and only James Shaw , Jay joined us from another club 3 yrs ago ,and has done well since joining us , but because of work commitments [so he says ] he hasn't boxed as much as he would have liked to ,but as i have said Jay put the work in and the bouts are their for you .

Strike up the pose or what ?, this is Michael Loup the club playboy so he tells us ,Mick had some great results last season winning area titles and getting to two national finals which he was unlucky not to win if he gets his head down this time round their is no reason why he cant go all the way .

Here we have Karl Tierney and Dean Jones ,Karl is the currant British Youth heavyweight champion and also the NACYP heavyweight champ, Karl has been with the club for 6 yrs now and if he keeps up his progress should win many more titles.

Young Deano has tried on many occasion to knock Karl out ,and he has not had a contest for us yet,he has just got his licence so hopefully if he keeps working hard should have his first bout in November

Rikki has been with us 4yrs now still cant see what he is always smiling at.Must be the thoughts of getting away from me ,as he has decided to join the Parachute Regiment ,so we wish him well and hope he wins his last bout for us on 31st October

Junior Novice Final

Young Connor Brennan had a real introduction to championship boxing on Friday 10th October ,he boxed in the final of the Merseyside and west Cheshire Junior novice finals ,it was a contest for young boxers who have had less than 10 contests it would be Connors 4th and his opponents 8th ,also Conner came in 1. 1\2 kg lighter , so the he was really up against it from the off ,some people will say why do we take these these bouts ? and the answer is always the same ,Experience , you cant always have every thing in your favour,and these young athletes have to rise to the occasion if they want to progress .

Connor got of to a good start boxing well on his back foot and controlling the pace , young Cullen from Skem ABC is a very aggressive come forward fighter who does not have a reverse gear,half way into the round he caught Connor with solid right cross which shook Conner to his toes , Conner then went into pure defensive mode and for the remainder of the round did not throw any meaningful shots back Cullen 1 round up.
Connor was told in the corner that he needed to be more assertive and to match his opponents aggression , even though he was looking the classier boxer of the two , his dancing and dodging will not win you the fight. At the start of the second Cullen came at him like steam train and again his power told as Connors nose started to bleed and the doctor had to have a look to make sure it wasn't serious which it wasn't ,the bout continued in the same mode with Cullen throwing bombs and Conner throwing nothing ,the referee had seen enough and in his wisdom stopped the contest . Conner was not hurt ,pride dented a little bit but as we said earlier he is only learning and i am sure he will come back stronger and wiser as the man said if you don't have the guts to take risks in life you wont achieve much .
So well done Conner remember you done the hard part climbing through those ropes ,keep working hard at every thing and you cant go wrong

new additions

Hi ,we have been that busy over the last few weeks that i haven't had the time to do much else ,but every thing has evened out now we know where we are up to and we are ready to go .We have 4 new additions to our camp so here is our boxing squad for this season and on behalf of all our coaches we hope you all have a tremendous season ,which you will if you all work hard .

New Season

Hello all ,just to let you all know we are up and running again ,so if you want to box get your buts in here . Also to let you know that North Mersey Lions has folded ,and i have joined Aintree villa FC in the West Cheshire League ,we have got of to a good start winning 4 games and drawing 1,which for the time being puts us at the top of the league .
Anyway as i have already said lets see you all back in ,and lets have a good season see you soon.

KARL T 3 NATIONS CHAMP

The lad has done it again ,Karl Tierney boxed for England in the Great Britain Youth Championships ,and had a straight final contest against Welsh super heavy weight champ Rhys Williams .The venue was Portobello Town Hall Edinburgh ,which may i say was not all that ,and the prices they were charging to get in was extortionate . Karl wa son last in an 11 card program which saw England take nearly all the honours as our junior champions made some of the bouts look very easy .Karl weighed in at 92.5 kls and Rhys at 96kls ,he was also 2 to 3 inches taller than Karl also ,around 6ft 3ins ,the first round started of with a bang as Williams ran at Karl and tried to dominate with his barrage of punches but Karl was very controlled and just turned him and ended up in the centre of the ring himself and then started to do a number on the kid , Karl gave a really mature boxing exhibition ,it was near punch perfect ,bobbing ,weaving 2 and 3 phase attacks , just hitting the kid at will for the 3 rounds ,so it was no surprise when he was declared the winner with a score of 26 to 2.If Karl keeps on performing like this he is going to have a very exciting and busy boxing career and if he does go all the way ,meaning as far as he wants then it couldn't happen to a nicer lad .And any of you younger lads who aspire to be as good as Karl then to you i say , put the work in .,be as fit and strong as you can,get your head down in school ,stay out of trouble and be happy .

Not much happening at the moment folks ,most of the lads resting their bones now after a pretty hard season , the new boys in the gym are still pushing themselves hard, and to you i say chill , just practise what you think needs working on ,and the rest will follow.
Young Karl T is away with an England squad this weekend doing a bit of bonding , training and what have you ,hopefully he will be picked to box again next weekend up in Edinburgh good luck to him. I'm going to try to shed a few pounds over the next few weeks , in between a few pints { no laughing } , wait and see.
Anyway if you still want to train we are open ,get youre arse in cause i have lot have bills to pay

North Boxing Show St Marys College

I don't think there is a more relieved person on the planet than me at this moment ,our show on Thursday 5th June was a roaring success ,it is the first time in 4 years that i have been able to put one together ,and i must say i thought was going to crack up trying to make matches ,but it all came together on the night .I would like to thank Jamie Mellor Transport ABC who was a real help and all the other clubs some who travelled a long way to make this show possible,and as i have said to you all ,if i can help you out in the future don't hesitate to ask .
We had a mixed bag of results out of the seven lads who boxed for us ,first up was Paul Dickman who was up against Jack Flatly from Newbury ABC ,Paul didn't do him self any justice and knows he can do better than he did and lost to a fitter lad on this night ,Mick Christie never boxed as his opponent was to heavy ,which was a big let down for the lad who has trained as hard as he ever has for this bout . Mick [spud ] Murphy was astonishing he had a return bout with Dom Mcnally from Sefton Abc Dom beat Mick 3 weeks ago on their show ,and this inspired Mick to fight like we have never seen him ,hence the thunderous right hand that stopped his opponent in the second minute of the first round well done kid .Connor Brennan what can i say KEEP your hands UP for the millionth time Conner boxed the head of his opponent Ryan Roberts from Shotton ABC but kept dropping his hands and getting caught with hay makers ,he was put on his arse in the first round which you think would be a wake up call but no, he goes out and does the same in the second ,he boxes the kids head of with some lovely jabbing and moving,then bang a shot from no where and there he is on his arse again KEEP YOU F-------- HANDS UP.
Cano what a turn around i have never seen any one ,wanting to prove me wrong as he did ,he looked like a totally different person in that ring compared to the last time he boxed ,he bossed the contest from start to finish ,controlling the fight from the middle , gone was all the twirls and bouncing round ,and in its place we saw great footwork, ring control, timing , aggression the lot .
Chris was beaten by this kid Danny Wells from Runcorn last month and has 1 contest in between which he won ,so he was determined to keep this winning streak going and he did ,also he received the Len Buchanan boxer of the night trophy which he deserved.
Mick Rigby had hard lines in a contest where their was more holding and brawling than boxing it could have gone any way but as it happened his opponent got the decision.
Our heavy weight big Rick was beaten by his nose again { get it sorted Rick] in a contest of 2 big men ,it turned into a slug fest with both lads standing toe to toe ,and hitting each other with bombs ,credit must be payed to both lads on their fitness . Both of them had to have the doctor check them out because of nose bleeds ,Neil Smiths seemed to not be as bad as Rickys ,but both finished the first round covered in claret . At the start of the second round they went at it again with Ricky getting the better of things ,he hit Smith with a left hook to the body which near snapped him in half ,he went on the run after this with Ricky stalking him and catching him with vicious shots to head and body it was only a matter of time before this kid was knocked out or the ref stopped it ,but guess what the ref in his wisdom decided that Ricky was bleeding to much and making a mess of the canvass or something and called a halt to the bout ,hard luck Rick AGAIN.
Last but not least was the weird but wonderful Loupy Mick boxed Ryan Sutton from Preston a lad he boxed and beat last year in the Golden Belt Championships and beat,Ryan got on his front foot from the bell ,but found it hard to get pass loupy's long reach Mike dominated the fight from the middle of the ring and found the going easy as he started show boating with his Ali shuffles and bolas punches ,he went on to win the contest easy .
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Karl Tierney Junior on making his England debut against Wales at Everton Park 7/6/08 he had a very hard contest against a very experienced Simon Mcdonagh who was as tough as they come, but he could not match Karl's boxing skills and lost 9-5 well done Karl .
Well that's our season over now ,i hope that i have kept you informed about our little club ,we are having a break for a few weeks now ,but if any thing pops up of interest i will let you know ,again well done to the lads who boxed this season remember win or lose you are all stars see you soon

FIGHT FIGHT AND MORE FIGHTS

Hi Folks
Been a while i know ,been up the wall putting our show together which is more or less sorted ,in the mean time have had lads boxing all over the place with varying result's the 7th May we had Chris Cain + Mick Rigby boxing in Runcorn ,It was Canos first contest and he was a bag of nerves ,the kid he boxed was having his 3rd contest . Cano got off to a good start and was never in trouble in the 1st round ,going in to the 2nd we asked him to stand his ground more and to stand and box ,but again nerves got the better and of on his bike he went losing the round ,again for the final round we told him he was losing the fight and that he would have to go out there and knock the kid out but it wasn't to be and needlessly to say he lost but the lad done well and vowed that it would never happen again ?
Mr Rigby what can i say great performance ,he gave age experience +weight away but still gave the kid a boxing lesson winning every round well in kid.
Monday 19/5/08 we were at Sefton ABC show with young Spud Murphy who was having his 3rd contest ,leading up to the fight everything was fine a good positive warm he seemed prepared mentally ,looked like he could take on the world ,but it all fell apart after the first round .His left calf ceased up ,with nerves cramp or what we don't know but it stopped him from performing as well as he can and well as you can guess he got wellied ,but he is fighting the kid again on our show so watch this space
Next up was the Crew FC show 23 /5 /8 where we had 3 lads fighting Cano Ricki And young Mick Christy , Mick was up first against Tim Hilditch a kid with the devil in him ,the bout started with a flurry of punches some landing most missing and a lot of grabbing and holding after being warned they both tried to box first round we thought was even ,the next round Mick got on his back foot trying to counter but was falling short with his shots and getting caught waiting he lost this round going into the last he was asked to stay in the middle and box this kids head of which he was well capable of doing but again he got on his toes and like the second round he was second at the final bell he knew and we knew that he had thrown it away sort yer head out Mick
Cano the whirling dirvish ( that's an Arab dancer who spends his time spinning round },i know that as a coach you are suppose to be professional in the corner but there times when you have no control over ones emotions and folks this bout was one of them,this was Canos second bout in 3 wks ,and since his 1st one we have worked a lot on ring craft IE cutting the ring down bossing from the middle ease of movement ++++ but it may as well been break dancing lessons we had given him ,because for 3 rounds he danced spun ducked dived twirled you name it he did it come dancing had nothing on this performance ,but you know what he got the kid that dissy he actually won the bout well done son { i think ] !.
Big bad Ricki hes the man ,14stn of lean mean fighting machine ,this was the fight the crowd had been waiting for all night ,he was up against Nick Hard Hitting Harvey ,and this bout started with an explosion as they went at it from the get-go , both lads were throwing bombs and it was only a matter of time before 1 of them took a step back and that was Harvey , Ricki got his fine southpaw jab working and controlled the rest of the round which he won easily.Ricki got on his jab at the beginning of the second ,staying on the out side he totally controled the round picking Nick of at will-Nick tried to bull his way in but every time he came rushing forward Ricki would slot him with cleanest back hands and literally stop him in his tracks ,round 2 to Ricki.
The last round Ricki only had keep doing the same ,but he had other ideas ,he started of the same backing off letting Nick walk on to him then bang back hand right on the button, Nick would not take a backward step and persisted in coming in chin up guard open throwing bombs ,but he did it once to often and payed for it dearly as Ricki hit hm with the sweetest one two which put Nick flat on his back and he was never getting up ,it was one of the best performances of his career to date and things can only get better.Well done Ricki .

who needs a treble

Well folks it wasnt to be we had high hopes for the treble ,but failed ,but what the hell we have still had a great season i think 2 trophy's is enough .
To the game it was well balanced game with no one really what you would call really good chances which is why it was 0-0 at half time .
The second half Seaburn stepped it up a gear and rely forced the game , but we defended well and they never got a shot on target ,on about the 60th min Tobin had an header saved of the line and 5mins later Karl Sid was sent of ,this was the changing of the game as they ran us ragged in the middle of the park ,they fed the ball out right and the kid put in a good cross which young Hickey headed home 1-0 Seaburn.
Try as we might after that we could not find the net Deano went up front but to no avail ,and with us still trying to press Seaburn launched the ball up to their for wards who by this time had our lads treading water ,and with a simple 1--2 Bobby Berman slotted and that was that game over well done Seaburn.

Right on a happier note we had 2 of our lads boxing on Wednesday night on the Runcorn show Chris Cain who was making his debut and Mick Rigby making his 11th outing .Chris boxed a kid who had already had 2 bouts so had a little experience not you could tell as Cano bullied him for 3 rounds and at times had his guard way to low and to open resulting in him getting caught with silly shots ,part from that he put in a really spirited performance and i would not be surprised if he does not stop him on our show .
Mic Rigby came up against the Runcorn thug ,im sure he was trying slap the face of Mick as he threw shots wildly ,at times just missing the ref ,Miick as usual was as cool as a cucumber and stuck to his boxing with a nice tight defence [ for once].
The start of the second the kid came at mick again like a bull and it got a bit scrappy [ Mick you need to learn to give yourself room to work ],again Mick got back to basics and boxed the head of him for the rest of the round.
Coming out for the 3rd both lads looked done in ,bearing in mind it was like a bloody sauna in the hall,Mic soon got his jab working and moved well not letting his opponent settle ,and won on points easily well done lads 2 great fights

Done The Double

What can i say ? only well done well done well f------ done lads .
You should all be so proud of your self's ,it is some achievement to win the League and the League Cup in the same season and to be in an other final as well bloody brilliant .
I must give credit to the Tom Jones Fc ,who made it a really good game ,by the way we won 2-0 with goals from Peter Tobin who scored a cracking free kick ,And Karl Sid who beat about 4 players before scoring from the most weird angle .If any one is wondering why i have only wrote this today it has taken me this long to sober up,but i hope i feel exactly the same in 2 weeks when we play Seaburn , in our other final so folks watch this space see you soon.

Two Toms Finals ( weird or what }

We have some weekend to look forward to ,first up is Mick Loup Who will be boxing in the West Lancs & Cheshire ABA finals which is being held at the Adelphi Hotel this Friday 18 April he is boxing his old foe Tom Jones from Skem ABC ,it stands at 1 bout each ,so should be a good contest as long as the judges get it right this time and score it fairly, boxing starts at 8.30.
As weird as this may seem , our football team North Mersey Lions are playing in the Cannon Francis Cup Final against Tom Jones FC this Sunday 22 /4 /2008,which will be played at Bootle FCs new ground in Bridle Road Bootle ,11 AM kick of .

TOBIN TONKS TOMS

Tom Jones Fc were given a lesson in finishing on Sunday by the mercurial Peter Tobin ,who bagged his first hat trick of the season. On a wind batterd Buckley Hill it was not unusual for the Lions to again hammer Tom Jones Fc ,Tobin opened th scoring after 20 mins ,when after receiving the ball on the left he rounded 3 players before firing into the bottom corner,try as they could Toms could not get out of their half even though they had the assistant of a very strong wind ,10 mins later Mcshane split Toms defence with a lovely, pass which Johnny Gladwell got on the end of and duly dispatched under the advancing keeper 2-0 half time.
The second half was when Tom Jones Fc wished they had stayed on their green green grass at home as they were put to the sword ,Tobin scored 2 in 5 mins ,1 of a corner with a deft header at the near post ,and then nearly taking the net off with a left footed volly 4-0 .From then on it was a totally 1 sided game with all hands trying to get in on the act Lee Sid became a centre forward for a mad 5 mins ,before he ran out of steam, Kev Park left back went on a mazy run and was fouled on the edge, the ref gave a pen which he duly took and scored 5-0,10 mins later Maca got on the end of one and put it away 6-0 and in the dying minutes Sean bull Preston let fly with a rocket a of shot which finished the game of,as by this time Tom Jones players were crying for a pint or a point?

RIP OFF MONDAY

Last night Monday 31/3/08 should have been a night of celebration,but as it turned out it was a night of frustration leading to anger.Again at what should have been a show piece for the ABAs,again turned into a farce as once more 1 of our lads was well and truly CHEATED out of a decision .Mick Loup had the fight of his short career to date [11 contests ], performed magnificently,he boxed Tom Jones [38 contests ]from Skem ABC ,for the first 2 rounds it was close on our scoring with both lads getting in some eye catching shots ,coming out for the 3rd Loupy Caught Tom clean on the button ,which made him wobble ,after this Loupy dominated from the centre not letting tom get any shots off and wearing him down at the final bell both lads embraced which shows respect nice 1 lads.
When the decision went to Tom the gasps of amazement could be heard right through the hall ,to say we were shocked was an understatement so to you judges shame on you because it is ---ty decisions like this that make lads pack it in.
Also boxing last night was young Mick Rigby ,who boxed Ryan Cameron from Sefton ABC,Mick had to give away weight height and age to this kid ,but nothing deters him ,he would fight any 1 any where, great attitude and totally fearless .Mick got of to a flyer catching his opponent with hooks and body shots onthe inside ,and nicked the first round,coming out for the second Ryan was like a man possessed as he launched into a frenzied assault ,he had to be spoken to by the ref asking him to cool it ,he caught mick with some heavy shots in this round and i would say won it .
Going into the last both lads tried to dominate from the centre which led to a lot of holding and mauling Ryan was sharper with his shots coming out of the brake, again catching Mick with straight scoring eye catching shots and on the strength of these was duly declared the winner .

Connor The Killer

Connor Brennan will be a name to remember ,this lad had his second contest on Saturday ,against an opponent who beat him last time out .Most lads would have been a little bit nervous at facing someone in so short a time after a defeat ,but Connor was as cool as you like as he boxed the head of his opponent Ste Pye ,he looked like he had been boxing for years as he dominated every round ,giving the judges no choice but to declare him the winner ,well done son first of many.
Also boxing on this show was James Shaw who was up against tricky southpaw Ste Brown ,Jay got of to a good start working behind his jab and countering his much taller opponent ,the first round finished pretty even. The second and third rounds we thought jay won ,and he would have made it more convincing if he had thrown more right hands, but it wasnt to be as they gave the decision to his opponent.

This is becoming a habit for this football team of ours ,but for the 10th time this season they scored 7 goals in a game. The victims this time were Quass FC ,they must be given a pat on the back ,inspite of the score they did make agame of it ,Dean siadankay 1 and John Gladwell 2 was the score at half time.Then Dean scored 2 more John got 1 ,and Sean Preston rounded it off next game is Liverpool Arms on 13th April

Seaburns Sad Sinking

Where do i start? ,the leagues decision to play this match at swampy hill when there was a perfectly good pitch at Litherland Sports ,or the fact that as a semi final we only had 1 lines man which was a total farce ,or the fact that the referee with the whistle glued to his lips ruined what should have been a realy good game, but you no what no moaning this week just glad that we have reached another final ,yes another 1
Anyway to the game ,like i said earlier the pitch was a mess with the centre like a pond ,and with a gale blowing the length of the pitch it made hard going . Seaburn playing into the wind first half and were under the cosh from kick of but defended well for 15 mins ,they had an attack and played some slick football working the ball in to the box when 1 of their players was fouled resulting in a pen ,Basher Porter stepped up to take it but shot wide as he seemed to slip as he took it .
The lions seemed to find another gear and 10 mins later Jon Gladwell waltzed round 2 or 3 defenders before slotting in the top corner 1-0 , this spurred the lads on and again with the help of the wind we kept the ball in their half till 10 mins later johny glad headed home from 5 yds 2-0 which is how it stayed till half time.
The second half was a reversal of the first with the lions struggling to get out of their half with the wind and Seaburns good play keeping us pinned in ,10 mins in to the half Seaburn had a free kick witch was floated to the back post and headed into the back of net,2-1 .Dean lost his head at this and got sent of for screaming at the ref,still we defended well till full time
The second half saw us playing with the wind ,but with 10 men it was hard going ,as Seaburn closed down well untill a ball came out toi Maca on the left wing and from about 30 yds he hit a rocket into the top corner 3-2,mins later Seaburn scored again from a free kick again bad defending 3-3 the last 15 Seaburn turned it on and we defended for our lives , with 5 mins to go it looked like it was going to penelties until we got a corner Maca took it and somehow bent it in to the goal 4-3 which is how it stayed to the final whistle.

SALTBOX SEMI SORROWS

Sunday saw the end of Saltbox FCs season as we dumped them out of the Cannon Francis cup semi final,3-1 ,this coming two weeks after we stopped them from winning the league by the same score.It was an ill tempered game ,with some of the Saltbox players wound up and being over aggresive,if not for the weak refereeing , 2 or 3 of them should have taken the early bath ,as it happened it was only 1, [ it was 2 of them in the last game ]. J Mcshane got the first goal with a lovely glancing header at the near post ,it stayed 1-0 till the half .The second half started as the first finished with the Lions hammering at there goal but nothing would go in ,after 15 mins a Saltbox player delibratley handled in the box and a pen was awarded, up stepped Karl Sid who cooly buried the ball in the top of the net 2-0 .The game went dead after this with the Lions seeming to go to sleep ,untill Saltbox made a rare attack ,a shot from J Rainford hit a Lion player on the hand and they got a pen which they scored 2-1,this woke the lads up and they went on the rampage hitting the post twice in 5 mins until Maca slotted another one ,3-1 A couple of the Salty players lost the plot at this and 1 of them was sent of .the game finished 3-1.

Sunday 9-3 -08 -A day to remember,when we at last put 1 over Seaburn , a team who have been our bogey side for season after season.Over the years we have had some epic games against this side often coming of second best ,but this was a game our boys were determined to win .
As usual the game started at 100 miles an hour with both sides banging the tackles in, it eventualy settled down with some lovely swift passing moves from the lions .Dave Clegg was dominant in the middle of the park with his passing game ,whilst Karl Sid was his perfect foil and was not letting the Seaburn mifielders a second on the ball .
The Lions launched attack after attack until we got a corner which Penno swung into the near post where ,Maca flicked it into the top corner 1-0 .There was a few attacks from Seaburn but they were dealt with easely by a solid back 4 captained by Lee Sid ,a mention must go to Seaburns keeper who was outstanding and saved them from a good hiding , 2 games to go, win them and the Lions will be crowned champs.

AND THE WINNER IS

What a night KARL TIERNEY remember the name ! ,became the national boys club 91 kg champion last night ,winning his contest 15 - 1 his oponent Yousef Siabdellh ,who was a head taller than karl, came to have a war and found 1 ,Karl went to shake his hand at the start of the 1st round as is customary but either the lad wasnt having it, or he was just to fired up he gave Karl a crack in the gob instead [ sily boy ],Karl duly replied with a left hook witch nearly put the kid out of the ring, and so it went for three rounds,with Karl doing what he wanted ,nice and relaxed just picking up the points without breaking sweat.Great night late night { got home at 3am ]next up for Karl the ABAs WELL DONE LAD PROUD OF YOU,

Better late than never Baaad Week

Hello
Its kiled me to write anything this week,but it has to be done ,i must report that we have had the worst week in our clubs history,5 losses in the same week !!! shock horrer .Wednsday 27th feb Connor ,Spud + Dicko boxed on the Knowsley Vale show ,fifst up was young dicko ,in the right size boots this time he started the bout well and was holding his own ,then half way into the second round he went into reverse gear ,and that is how he stayed ,he was out gunned and ended up losing by majority.
Next came our debutant Connor ,this bout went of at 100mls an hour with both lads trying to knock each other out {7 months of training out the window ],rd 1 finished even ,rd 2started the same both lads like 2 demented nut cases ,Conner caught a right hand bang on the nose ,and the claret began to flow ,Conner survived that round and cme back to the corner in shock,we sent him back out with instructions to try and box keep his chin down and move[ ye i know but ? ] anyway he copped another 1flush on the hooter ,again claret ,the ref had a good look and decided to stop it with 20 secs to go .

Spud Murphy what can i say, you threw this away [ or did he ?] ,he gave his opponent 3 standing counts ,made his nose look a squashed tomato had the doctor look at it,had the kid legging it for the last 2mins with the corner begging the ref not to stop it ,{our area sec by the way ]and guess what they gave the bout to him nuff said.
Mick Rigby + Mic Christy boxed friday 29feb feb,i havent realy had chanc e to speak to them ,but what i have been told Rigby was realy unlucky not to get the decision ,and is boxing the kid again this week .Mic Christy tried his best was not strong enough and lost by a majority.

All the lads have vowed to train harder ,we will see !

WEDNESDAY Fight Night ------ Lions Bladder Salty

Tonight we have 3 of our finest young boxers doing there thing on the Knowlsley Vale show Kirkby ,first up will be Paul Dicko ,he is having a rematch with Knowsleys Dan Chambers ,who got the decision the last time these 2 met, Paul blamed his loss on ill fitting shoes? ,so this time he has a pair that fit so we expect a win.Mick Murphy also has a rematch with Skems Chris Cullen ,who the last time the lads met, Chris was retired by the doctor with a cut eye ,so he will be looking for revenge ,this should be an explosive contest .Finally Connor Brennan will be making his debut against another debutant in Higherside ABCs Mark Pye .Connor has trained like a lad possesed for this fight as have the other 2 ,and we expect to come away with 3 winners.

North Mersey Lions again had an excelant win at the weekend beating Saltbox FC 3-1,it was a scrappy game littered with fouls ,as to many players gave silly fouls away ,as their discipline let them down .Saltbox had a man sent off after 25 mins for a foul in the box,Karl Siadankay took the resulting pen and scored 1-0 it stayed like this till half time .At the start of the second half Lee Sid was replaced with Dave Balmer who again came on and did well,10 mins into the half Saltbox were gifted a pen ,witch they scored 1-1, 10 mins later Anthony Godfrey scored a goal witch may be goal of the season ,Saltbox rallied and for 15 mins pinned the Lions back in their own half ,untill again 1 of their player thought he was rocky marsh mellow and was sent of for slapping John Gladwell with his handbag.From the free kick the ball was quickley played to the other end where Peter Tobin scored a cracker ,3-1 game over NEXT.

Maggies Mauled

The Lads played Maggies FC at Buckley Hill on Sunday 17 Feb and came away 5-1 winners ,with goals from P tobin 1 Sean Lake 1 pen, Maca 2 and Johny Gladwell 1.
next game is on Sunday feb 24 against Saltbox who are currently top of the league ,so it should be a good game.

On the boxing side of things ,training is going well for the lads with upcoming bouts ,3 of the lads ,Paul Dicko Spud Murphy and Conner Brennan are boxing on the Knowsley Vale show on the 27th Feb ,and Karl Tierney is in the final of the NACYPs in Sheffield on the 6th march ,so they are getting stuck in, sparring well doing there road work and giving it all ,so good on them and hopfully we will have 4 winners ,watch this space

Alwright Folks

I didnt realise how many shy people i knew ,there are a lot of you now who read these blogs ,but havent the guts to reply or leave a message, sort your heads out this is what its all about, give it a go .

Ok ,nothing happening on the boxing side at the minute ,the lads are just training hard and staying sharp till their next contests Conner Spud + Dicko are boxing on the Knowsley Vale show at Kirkby Suit 27th feb which should be a good night ,and on the 24th feb KT is in the semis of the NACYPs so its all go on the training side .

The mighty North Mersey Lions did it again ,they beat the Cabbage Inn FC 7-1 ,again a totally one sided game with goals from Jon Gladwell 2 Lee Sid 2 Darren Carr 3 [ thats doady by the way },the lads are now second in the league and still in 2 semis ,so it could be an other trophy winning season as long as every body stays fit .

NORTH MERSEY v VALANTINE 3-2-08

Our football team showed that they can overcome any problems ,after this realy great performance on Sunday,with 3 key players out because of work comittments,the team had to be reshuffeled ,resulting in players ,playing in positions that they are not used to,a special mention must go to Anthony Godfrey ,who went in goal and normaly plays right back ,well done lad ,also a big UP to Jon Gladwell who we had to drag out of his sick bed ,and he rewarded us with an hat trick ,what a lad.
On i think , what was one of the worst days for football in a long time ,with a permanant gale blowing the length of the pitch ,both teams performed outstsandingly to make a game of it , half time 3-0
The second half had the Lion playing in to the wind and they coped well controling the ball in the middle of the park making Valentine work hard for any posestion that they had ,20 mins into the half Valentine were awarded a very ify penalty which Anthony got a hand to but could not save 3-1.
This made the Valentine raise their game and they piled forward, putting our lads under pressure ,but with the cool heads and leadership of Clegy and Lee Sid we held out with Peno scoring in the last 10,final score 4-1

Mixed Fortunes

Dont know where to start with this one ,young Loupy boxed in the NWC NAYCs on sunday ,and was the victim of the most diabolical scoring i have seen [IF YOU JUDGED AT THIS CONTEST AND YOU READ THIS SHAME ON YOU ]how is it possible for 2 super fit boxers ? ,to box 4- 2 minute rounds ,
and in their opinion only land 7 shots resulting in Loupy losing the contest 4-3 ,i would say they were either falling asleep as it was the last bout of a 19 bout tournament or maybe something a bit more sinister . Any ways Mike your gonna be a star lad you performed superbly and things can only get better ,[ sounds like a song ].

The lads done it again yesterday beating the Maggies 4-1 in the quarter final of the league cup Mcshane opened the scoring with a wonder strike again he is now well on course for leading goal scorer ,Sean Preston the rampaging fireman popped up with 1 after a fine move between himself and Cleggy .shock of the day was Mick Balmer,who hasnt been over the halfway line all season , netting after a fine cross from Dean Siadankay , halftime 3-0 The second half was a scrappy affair ,but give the Maggies credit for making a real good game of it but try as the might they could not break down the lions defence ,with 20 mins to go Dean Sid scored,to his relief after missing a hand full of chances ,with minutes to go Maggies scored a well deserved goal. Next game Sunday 3 Feb against Altway Valentine at home

MICK AND PAUL

Saturday 19-1 2008 saw young Paul Dickman have his 5th contest at Long Lane ABC against an opponent who was a real handfull,Chris Eyres from [ Dovecot ABC ]gave it a good go, but was no match for the elusive Dickman ,whos counter punching and over all ring craft ,was far superior to his opponents ,who at times was left punching fresh air ,as young Paul glided round the ring at will,and earned himself a well deserved win .
Making his debut on this same bill was Michael Murphy against Chris Cullen from Skem ABC,a very nervous Mick was shocked by the ferocity of Cullens attack from the opening bell but settled down after shipping a few good shots proving early on that he has agood chin ,as expected the 2 0f them went hammer and tongue for the first 2 mins with both of them suffering bleading noses,Micks defence was non exsistant, as he seamed to block every shot with his face { head down spud ].
The second round started like the 1st with cullen coming out like a lad possesed,But he ran into a brick wall as Mick fired back with quick powerfull shots catching Cullen on the way in ,a powerful right hand landed on Cullens left eye causing a split underneath ,the referee stopped the contest to protect the lad from further injury ,giving Mick his first victory by stoppage ,but he has a lot to improve on ,well done son.

Good Weekend

Morning Folks our lads did themselves proud at the weekend,Mick Rigby and MIck Loup in the west lancs and cheshire boxing finals,and our football team with an other emphatic win .

Mick and MIck were both up against it in the CYP boxing final both having to give vast experiance away ,Mick Rigby went in with an opponent who had 21 more contests than him, and he performed outstandingly considering , he battled valiently over the 4 rounds but his opponent J Collerton West Wirral ABC showed his experiance and used the ring well ,to edge it on a points decision[ well done mike done us proud lad ].

Loupy long legs the enigma of our club confounded us all with a narrow points decision over Tom Jones Skem ABC,it was a scrappy contest with young loupy looking at times like a preying mantiss on speed ,tom jones stuck to his boxing ,but i dont think with all his experiance ,that he has met any one like our mick, or would want to again ,going into the last round it seemed that young tom was ahead and just needed to win it to seel a victory ,but loupy dug deep and came back with some fast combinations wich seemed to score ,and i think to lots of peoples amazement he was declared the winner.Speaking to mick after the bout he admited that he must do lot better to progress any further in the competition.


Noth Mersey Lions FC had an other good win over Arriva Buses ,who at best were a very poor side ,who looked out of their depth in the prem division the game got off to a slow start ,but with the Lions dominating procedures it was 2 - 0 at half time with goals from Mcshane and Millington .Manager Phil Rafa Holmes gave the team a good rollicking at half, time telling them to cut out the crying and arguing and concentrate on the football ,it seemed to do the job ,because they were transformed in the second half scoring another 5 goals,Adam Millington banged in 2 more for his hat trick[ but hes not getting the ball till he pays his subs ]. Striker Johny Gladwell had to go of with a serious injury to his manhood ,and was replaced by Lee Siadankay ,who went in at centre half ,with Dean Siadankay put up front ,wich was an inspired move by the manager as Siadankay ran their defence ragged and topped of his performance with a net busting goal.Maca netted again with a superb effort,and with minutes remaining D Clegg scored with a glorious lob over the keepers head Final score 7-0 .

About Us

People have been asking how we came to be ,so here is a quick summary of what we are .
The Club started above the Red Lion Pub in Litherland Liverpool in 1999 ,i had worked for the local youth service part time for a few years,but got totally peed of with where it was going ,which was no where. They didnt seem to realise at that time how sport was an ideal way for young people to feel they belong and express themselves in a positive way ,with no pressure to acheive,especialy after being in education all day ,it also keeps them healthy and teaches respect for themselves and their opponents.
The surrounding areas of where our club is situated is classed as a deprived area there is quite alot of unemployment, drug related crime and anti social behavior,plus gang related activities.We like to think that the time the youngsters are in our care , that it remains a place of hard work ,dicipline [ SELF ],FUN and also a safe haven for a couple of hours a night a few nights a week. there you have it Sid

Well done to our football team at the weekend who gave a football lesson to Tom Jones Fc [ liverpool arms litherland] in a totaly 1 sided game our boys finished 6-1 winners with goals coming from Hitman Gladwell with a brace [ thats 2 by the way John ] Maca the wippet with 1 Peno the pest with another 2, 1 which was goal of the year , i know its only Jan but it was cracker, And Adam Millington finished it of with a well taken solo goal .
Lee siadankay made a return after a long lay off with a dislocated knee bone [ honest ] and did well when he came on as sub for the last 15 ,replacing Mick Balmer who had a solid game.
Phil Holmes manager said after the game Quote , [im right chuffed] ,next game is against the Saltbox on Sunday 13 jan at Litherland Sports Park 12-45 kick of get down and support the lads

CYP Boxing Championship 2008 updates

Hi all
The lads weighed in sunday all went well Karl was1 kg under the 91 kg category well done son considering 1 month ago he was like Jabba The Hut ,Mick Rigby bang on, and loupy long legs needs to put 2 kg on so we have ordred him to eat drink and be merry for the next 5 days .
All the lads got byes in round 1 and box on FRIDAY 11 th jan at Dockers Club Liverpool 8pm start. Loupy will box Tom Jones SkemABC , Mick Rig will box winner of Jamie Tollerton West Wirral Or Tom Farrel Dovecot same bill .Karl has bye to North West Counties final on 23rd of Jan
Congrats to our 2 new carded boxers Michael Murphy and Conner Brennan good luck for the future keep training hard and you wont go wrong .
