Mixed Fortunes

Good news first , Spud boxed like a star on Friday at Long Lanes show last Friday , he gave their club boxer Kev Smith a lesson in the art of boxing ,as he bobbed and weaved and hit his opponent at will as he went on to win every round with his best performance up to now . Mick Rigby should have boxed on the same bill but the kid came in half a stone over the weight so that was the end of that which was really disappointing after all the hard work he has done with Ste Mathews to get ready for this fight but never to mind because we have got both of the Micks boxing again tonight in Chester on the Deva show Rigby will be facing a tough traveling fighter in Dan McDonagh , and spud will be boxing Dave Melia from the same club , the way the lads are buzzing at the moment ,it should be a good night for them.
Now the not so good news Karl T boxed in the semi finals of the junior ABAs on Sunday gone as i explained last week his training for this contest was not as good as it should have been which Karl now realises , and as i said he was boxing one hell of a big lad , well he turned out bigger and better than we expected ,due to his lack of experience on record , but the kid could box and bang the whole 6ft 6in of him . It was 2-2 after the first round ,but it was plain to see that the kid was to strong and to heavy for Karl ,even though Karl was the better boxer his punches had little impact on big Fraser who just relentlessly came forward throwing bombs ,one Land flush putting Karl down for the first time in a long time , Karl took the count but was a little shaken , as the fight resumed Karl again was doing the better boxing but again Fraser landed with one of his 20 stone bombs, this time popping Karl's nose ,the bout was stopped while we cleaned him up , when the bout started again Fraser let rip with a barrage of accurate straight shots which were landing and rocking Karl to the core , i decide that Karl for all his skills would not put a dent in this giant of a kid ,and also i cant recall him ever being hit as hard so withdrew him , as the saying goes better a shot to early than a shot to late if you know what i mean . So Karl get the weight of get back to heavy weight and clean up the division like you know you can .

Karl Ts Semi + Mick Rigby +Mick Murphy

Young Karl Tierney will be boxing in the semi finals of the EABAs Junior finals this weekend over in Scunthorp , and it should be a very good day of boxing ,as most of the best up and coming talent in the country will be on show there . Karl's training has not gone to well as he has had problems with his knee and has hardly done any road work or any running of any sort for this comp ,so will have to rely on his boxing skills to get him through or maybe even look for a stoppage if possible. His opponent is a big brute of a lad from Burton ABC called Fraser Clark who weighs in at a whopping 126 kgs ,and if this kid is fit at this weight ,well Karl will have to pull out all the stops so good luck to him and i will let you know how he got on .
Mick Rigby and Spud Murphy are boxing this Friday on the Long lane show at the Adelphi Hotel, Rigby is boxing a kid called Rob Drew from the Phoenix Gym Warrington and spud is boxing one of the long lane kids ,named Ken Smith both seem like good bouts an i am looking forward to watching them box as they have both slogged there guts out with Steve Mathews , running up and down the hills in Everton plus sparring round after round to prepare themselves and get as prepared as they can be so good luck to these two as well , and we will let you know next week how they got on.

Rickis Weekend

What a weekend Ricki has had ,on Friday he boxed in the qtr finals of the Senior ABAs in Sheffield against Sean Denham from Aycliffe ABC and stopped him in the second round ,considering he hasn't boxed for 7-8 months because of nose problems , it was a great performance as Ricki dominated from the bell putting his opponent under pressure and keeping him on his back foot .Ricki dropped him with a body shot at the end of the first round just as the bell went , Sean got up and was well enough to start the second round , it started the same as the 1st with Sean on his back foot working well with his jab until Ricki managed to pin him to the ropes with some wicked shots to the body which again dropped the lad ,again he took the 8 count and seemed like he had recovered until again Ricki let rip with hooks to head and body , this was more than Sean could handle and he went to the canvas again which resulted in the ref calling it off the same time as his corner threw in the towel.
Ricki had to box again on Saturday against Chris Keane from Walsall Pleck ABC who was a former National Junior Champion ,from the first bell they both went at like a pair off bulls just trying to smash each other to pulp ,half way through the round the inevitable happened Ricki's nose went, the doctor had a good look at it and wanted to stop it we convinced him that Ricki's nose had been previously broken and he would be OK ,he let the fight continue and Ricki finished the first round 4-7 down which wasn't to bad .Going into the second Ricki started to stalk Keane but was not getting his shots off fat enough and was getting caught on the way in ,again the ref stopped to wipe blood of Ricki's face but when they resumed boxing it kicked of again and the contest was stopped which on reflection was a correct decision and we had no arguments with that .
So well done Ricki not many people get to the semis of a National comp so be proud of yourself [ but get that nose sorted out ] and may i wish Chris Keane all the best in the next round
